33rd Conference of Russian Orthodox Youth
The 33rd Conference of Russian Orthodox Youth, Divine Services and Symbols of the Orthodox Church, took place with the blessing of His Grace, Archbishop Hilarion of Sydney, Australia and New Zealand in Geelong in 1997. The congress was held over 22 to 26 December at Lady Northcote Recreation Camp. Father Gabriel (Makarov) headed preparation and conducting of the 33 conference of the parish of the Joy of All Who Sorrow.
The logo of the conference was created by Anna Kichakov.
The following lectures were presented to the participants of the conference:
- The Old Testament and New Testament Worship. (Archbishop Hilarion).
- The Divine Services of the Orthodox Church: Spiritual Antidote to the Deleterious Influences of the Outside World (Father Gregory Naumenko).
- The Heavenly Powers in History, in the Divine Services and in Our Lives. (Father Gregory Naumenko).
- The Orthodox Christian in the Information Age. (Father Gregory Naumenko).
- The Symbolism of Water in the Orthodox Church. (Father Michael Protopopov).
- Death After Life. (Father Nicholas Karipoff and Mark Ganin).
- Death During Life. (Father Nicholas Karipoff and Mark Ganin).
- Life After Death. (Father Nicholas Karipoff and Mark Ganin).
- The Modern Tower of Babel. (Father Nicholas Dalinkiewicz).
- Church Singing – The “Podobny” Chants. (Father Peter Sheko).
- The Significance of Various Appertenances Found in the Altar and Used in Divine Worship. (Father Vladimir Deduhin).
- The Contemporary Christian. (Father Michael Boikov).
- The Origin and Meaning of Clerical Vestments and Robes. (Father Vladimir Boikov).
Important points in this conference were the lectures delivered by the priest of the Holy Virgin Protection church in Rochester, New York, the teacher of the Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville Father Gregory Naumenko, who attended the conference on the invitation of Father Gabriel (Makarov).
Organisers of the conference carried out a statistical analysis of information about the number of participants of the 33rd Conference of Russian Orthodox Youth. This data showed that 13 clerics participated in the conference, New South Wales was represented by 66 people, Victoria – 61 people and 46 members of the committee for the organisation of the conference, Queensland – 28 people, South Australia – 2 people, Western Australia – 2 people and the Australian Capital Territory – 1 person.
